The Department of Materials Science and Engineering (MSE) and the Center for Advanced Construction Materials (CACM) at The University of Texas at Arlington (UTA) invite applications for a tenure-track assistant professor position with a focus on “Next generation of durable, smart, resilient, and sustainable nanoengineered materials for the infrastructure”. The position shall focus on one or more of the following areas (but not limited to): (a) experimental, analytical, computational, and multiscale modeling of surface and interface phenomena in infrastructure materials; (b) design, and characterization of multifunctional nanoengineered materials; (c) electrochemical and chemomechanical phenomena with a focus on durability and sustainability of nextgeneration structural materials; and (d) decoupling concrete manufacturing and global greenhouse gas emissions. Applicants must show exceptional promise for high-quality research, teaching, professional development, and the ability to build a recognized extramurally funded research program.
The MSE department and CACM house state-of-the-art laboratories, equipped to carry out pioneering materials research. Recently, the U.S. DoT has awarded UTA’s University Transportation Center for Durable and Resilient Transportation Infrastructure a $10 million grant for emerging materials, and technologies for reducing carbon emissions.
UTA’s MSE department has been at the forefront of emerging materials technology by designing and discovering new materials, enabling advanced understanding of challenging material problems, and offering innovative curricula in nanotechnology, computational materials, and advanced functional materials. MSE at UTA is the oldest and most diversified program in North Texas. The MSE department is a university-wide, interdisciplinary, graduate program with ten core materials faculty and twenty affiliated faculty spanning from physics, chemistry, and engineering.
