Description

Purpose:

Oversee the day-to-day activities of the AFS Technical Services Department to ensure that they are aligned with the goals of the AFS strategic plan; and serve as liaison to assigned divisions, committees and boards.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Directly supervise Technical Services Department employees as assigned. Develop goals, provide feedback, ensure high performance, and fulfil performance appraisal responsibilities.
  • Work with CEO and Director of Accounting & Finance to develop annual budget for Technical Services. Monitor and ensure year-around compliance with the budget.
  • Oversee administration of annual technical sessions & papers for Casting Congress.
  • Oversee all AFS-funded and outside-funded research for which AFS is responsible.
  • Ensure that Technical Council and Research Board operate according to Committee Handbook specifications and that vacancies are filled/continuity is planned on a timely basis.
  • Serve as technical liaison to assigned technical divisions, helping them to advance the AFS mission and vision. Supervise administrative services for those divisions.
  • Aggressively work to recruit individuals to participate in assigned divisions.
  • Plan and administer speciality conferences, ensuring compliance with revenue and expense targets.
  • Ensure timely scheduling and fulfilment of Members-Only Webinars.
  • Provide superior technical services to member companies.
  • Serve as a technical resource for staff, AFS magazines, and AFS Institute.
  • Promote involvement and membership in AFS.
  • Support AFS chapters by serving as local chapter speaker on request.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Requirements

Required Skills or Experience:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in an engineering, metallurgy or materials science.
  • 5-7 years successful experience in managing administrative and technical staff and contractors. 
  • Must be able to set measurable goals and ensure they are achieved.
  • Extensive knowledge of metalcasting industry, manufacturing, supply chains, and additive.  
  • Experience in research contract compliance is preferred.
  • Demonstrated track record as a team player and team leader.  Ability to deliver and model superior member service throughout an entire division; and collaborate/communicate effectively with other AFS divisions.
  • Ability to stay current with high volume of email, phone and in-person inquiries.
  • Due to the high level of interaction with industry, government agencies, and the public, the successful candidate must be proficient in both written and verbal communications in English.
  • Periodic travel is required (25%) with a willingness to travel frequently, with occasional evening and weekend work.
  • Must have valid drivers license.
